The Power Systems Data Scientist will work on the development, adaptation and testing of algorithms across the product and solutions range.


  • Developing state-of-the art Smartgrid technology applications aimed at electricity distribution operators within the energy industry.
  • Identification of suitable machine learning models on a project by project basis
  • Design and delivery of software including coding of deliverables
  • Develop highly scalable algorithms and tools leveraging machine learning, data regression, and systems optimisation
  • Suggest, collect and synthesize requirements and create effective feature roadmap
  • Demonstrate end-to-end understanding of applications (including, but not limited to, the Machine Learning algorithms) being created
  • Clear and concise reporting on progress to stakeholders


  • Degree in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or similar
  • PhD and two years post doctorial research in machine learning, statistical signal processing, or a similar field; or equivalent industrial experience
  • Familiarity with the Mathworks toolchain
  • Application of computer science fundamentals
  • The ability to program in Matlab or Python is essential
  • The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, within a team environment
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative and consistently delivers high-quality answers
  • Has an enquiring mind and a disciplined scientific approach to extracting facts and understanding observed behavior
  • Able to create and deploy machine learning pipelines

The following would be useful but not essential:

  • An understanding of power systems would be advantageous but is not essential
  • An understanding of signal processing would be advantageous but not essential
  • Good publication record
