Product Application Engineer

The Product Application Engineer will work within the technology department with responsibility for advising customers and colleagues in the use of Fundamentals products.


  • Providing specification development support to colleagues, customers, consultants and partners
  • Providing training for customers, colleagues and partners on the product and application
  • Pre sales support including product selection and scheme advice
  • Post sales support including settings and integration advice
  • Supporting and providing input to product promotion and tendering
  • Assisting in the design and development of tools to support partners with selling Fundamentals products
  • Providing input to product-related market research, intelligence and competitor analysis
  • Supporting capture of the voice of the customer (VOC) and defining requirements for new product and feature development
  • Providing material and reviews in the creation of user documentation
  • Supporting customer approval activities including factory acceptance testing
  • Work on and in support of customer and internal projects, occasionally on customer premises and sites


  • Degree/HND in an electrical/electronic/software/power engineering discipline
  • Capability to read, understand and communicate through technical specifications and drawings
  • Experience working with substation and power system protection and/or control equipment
  • Experience of working within an ISO 9001 management system
  • Capability to communicate well to a good standard of written and verbal English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to relate well to colleagues and clients
  • Ability to manage a variety of competing priorities and meet deadlines, and to be flexible and to adapt to changing and challenging circumstances
  • Ability to formulate ideas and solutions and present them effectively


Experience of any of the following would be useful but not essential:

  • Experience of an HV/EHV substation environment
  • Knowledge and experience of the internals of substation and power system protection and/or control equipment
  • Experience of working with common SCADA communication protocols: IEC 60870 series, DNP3, IEC 61850
